HARPER’S FERRY HIKE
A little over an hour’s drive northwest of DC is Harper’s Ferry, West Virginia. Here, the Shenandoah River meets the Potomac River.
Parts of the town of Harper’s Ferry are located in the Harper’s Ferry National Historic Park, and many of the buildings in the center of town are part of the National Register of Historic Places.
But, in my opinion, the best way to see Harper’s Ferry is from above! It will take you a couple hours to hike to the top of the Loudon Heights Trail, but the views are well worth it.
Best of all, it is dog friendly!
All in, it is a little over 7 miles from where you park your car to the top of the overlook, and back.
I use the AllTrails app when I hike so I don’t get lost! Here is their info on the Loudon Heights Trail.
