Dracula & Peleș Castle

Dracula & Peleș Castle

Before settling in to Bucharest, I took one final day trip to Brasov to see the two most famous castles in Romania: Dracula’s Castle and Peleș Castle.  Brasov is surrounded by mountains, and is one of the most visited cities in Romania.

I chose to get a view of the Old Town from atop one of the old watchtowers.  Today, Brasov has its own version of a Hollywood sign.

The magnificent Peles Castle was the summer residence of the Romanian royal family.

Bran Castle, more commonly known as Dracula’s Castle, was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s novel.

Unfortunately, in reality, Vlad Dracul had very little to do with the castle.

Still, perched high atop a hill, it is easy to see where the inspiration came from.
